Where there is free flow,
there is no pain.
Where there is stagnation,
there is pain.

TUINA Therapy in Berlin – Therapeutic Chinese Bodywork
What is Tuina Massage?
Tuina massage is a traditional Chinese hands-on therapy that combines therapeutic massage, acupressure, joint mobilisation, deep tissue techniques, cupping, and meridian work. Tuina may help relieve muscular tension, neck and shoulder discomfort, lower back pain, stress, and general physical fatigue.
What is the difference between Tuina and a regular massage?
Tuina combines massage, acupressure, joint mobilisation, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles. Tuina is often a deep tissue massage, but also works with meridians, pressure points, and gentle bodywork.
Benefits of Tuina Therapy
The goal of a Tuina therapy session is to create flow.
Chinese medicine is a medicine of movement. It views the body as a living, dynamic process. By addressing stagnation, blockages, and areas that are depleted of movement or energy, Tuina seeks to support the harmonious flow of energy and movement within the body.
Tuina massage therapy can be a valuable preventive practice. Regular sessions may help support long-term balance, mobility, well-being, and relaxation.
What happens during a Tuina Therapy Session?
Together with Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tuina represents one of the four pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Tuina is a holistic physical therapy that can be understood as the manual or physiotherapeutic branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Depending on the needs of the client, a session may include:
-
Therapeutic and wellness massage
-
Joint mobilisation
-
Manual mobilisation techniques
-
Meridian therapy
-
Acupressure and trigger point therapy
-
Cupping
-
Gua Sha
-
Qi Gong-inspired bodywork
-
Breath and body awareness practices
Tuina for Musculoskeletal Complaints and Abdominal Bodywork
Tuina may help reduce pain, improve mobility, and relieve muscular tension in some musculoskeletal conditions, particularly in cases of neck, shoulder, and lower back discomfort.
Abdominal Tuina combines massage, gentle mobilisation, and bodywork techniques and may bring about deep relaxation. Some clients also experience an increased sense of emotional awareness. Abdominal massage may also be beneficial for supporting relaxation around scar tissue and relieving tension after surgery.
As a certified Tuina practitioner and Heilpraktiker in Berlin, I combine Traditional Chinese Medicine principles with hands-on bodywork and therapeutic massage techniques.
My focus includes:
-
Tuina massage therapy for shoulder and neck tension
-
Tuina massage therapy for the lower back and lower extremities
-
Tuina for major joints of the upper and lower extremities
-
Tuina for jaw tension and craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD)
-
Tuina for the abdomen, chest, and pelvic area
Tuina for Stress Relief, Relaxation and Emotional Awareness
Through the stimulation of meridians and acupressure points, we become more aware of the deep connections within the body. The sensual and physical experience cannot be separated from the mind or spirit. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the human being is often understood as having five spiritual aspects.
The Shen – spirit, consciousness, and emotional presence – corresponds to the Heart.
The Hun – the dreaming, visionary soul – corresponds to the Liver.
The Po – the corporeal, instinctive, sensual soul – corresponds to the Lungs.
The Yi – reflection, memory, and thought – corresponds to the Spleen.
The Zhi – willpower, endurance, and deep motivation – corresponds to the Kidneys.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, each of these aspects is associated with specific organ systems and meridian pathways and may be influenced through touch, food, the senses, and emotions.
The body cannot be reduced to a mere sum of parts. It is a living, feeling, experiencing entity – complex and beautiful in its complexity.
Tuina may thus help us reconnect with the complexity of the body and with a deeper sense of physical and emotional awareness.
What can you expect from a Tuina Massage Therapy Session?
After an initial therapeutic consultation, and taking into consideration your individual needs and wishes, as well as pulse and tongue diagnosis, we will decide together on the most appropriate treatment approach.
Tuina is a complementary therapy and does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment. In the case of acute, severe, or unclear symptoms, medical evaluation is recommended.
If you are unsure whether Tuina is suitable for your concerns, I invite you to contact me for an initial phone consultation. Treatments are offered in my practice in Berlin after an initial in-person consultation.
